Skincare is my favourite thing. I may fall out of love with makeup but the lure of serums, oils and the various new ingredients never fail to attract me to skincare. The reasons behind this are both therapeutic and forward-looking. Looking after my skin gives me the sense of looking after myself and that much needed 'me time' that is almost impossible to get in our busy lives and the forward-looking aspect being, investing in my skin. I'd like to look back in 20 years time and thank my younger self for the skin I have.
I mentioned in my Downsizing My Life post last week, that I’m trying to minimise things that I own. On this journey one of the difficult things has been trying to find a balance between the life I want to have and cutting down the things involved in that life. For example, I enjoy cooking and baking; which also helps me to have healthy eating habits. However, this means I have various kinds of pots and pans, utensils, and kitchen gadgets.
If you follow me on Instagram (@aspiringlondoner), you know that I was travelling across Asia this summer. My first destination was Hong Kong, and I instantly fell in love! It’s an amazing city with a great mix of the old and new. There are influences from the old China dynasty to the new shiny western Hong Kong. It can be quite confusing knowing where to go when researching, so I’m going to share my top 5 Hong Kong must-see/do!
A few months ago, I stumbled upon a Ted Talk of ‘The Minimalists’ called ‘A rich life with less stuff’. It changed my life. I am not even remotely exaggerating when I say that. I started to declutter in 2015, although I got rid of a lot of stuff – it wasn’t enough. I still kept bringing stuff into my home so I never really decluttered.
Skincare is uber expensive these days. I sometimes cannot believe the prices of some of the products YouTubers talk about! £40 is no longer considered expensive for a face oil….! When I drop that kind of dosh on a product, I’d have to starve myself for a while. Anyway I’ve been trying out some products people have recommended or I’ve seen around the shops to see how they perform. I’ve found some gems that I think will stop me looking for anything else for quite some time (although being a skincare junkie, it’s hard to be loyal!).
I love food. Like really love food, so it’s a bit of a weird one that I’ve never blogged about food. It’s basically one of my favourite thing to do, other than playing around with my makeup! I was kindly invited by the Karbon Grill at Hilton Garden Inn at Sunderland, to taste their American style afternoon tea. If there’s food involved, you don’t have to ask me twice!
