Review | Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion

Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion
I never used to bother to read ingredients list on the packaging of moisturisers.  The promises of the brand were enough to bowl me over to buy their lotions and potions.  However in the last couple of years, I’ve really been conscious of what I buy with my hard-earned cash and if it will actually be beneficial to the skin issues I want to address.

Most moisturisers have some form on mineral oil in their ingredients.  It has various names such as petrolatum, paraffin, petroleum jelly (Vaseline), baby oil etc.  Now, what’s wrong with mineral oil?  Essentially it sits on top of your skin not doing much other than making it greasy and clogging your pores.  It doesn’t absorb into the skin and therefore also stops other ‘good’ ingredients in your moisturiser from sinking in too.  So that £100 face cream you bought? You’re not going to see many benefits.  There is of course another side as with everything, but this made me think about what I put on my face.

Thus began my journey for finding a moisturiser without mineral oil. Enter - Aveda Botanical Kinetics Hydrating Lotion.

No mineral oil in sight and cruelty free.  It’s formulated for all skin types.  The moisturiser contains a blend of lavender and chamomile to help skin texture to be soft and supple.  This quick absorbing moisturiser contains emollients derived from coconut and jojoba to really replenish moisture to your skin.

It has a really light texture, and sinks in beautifully.  After application, if I touch my face even after an hour I can still feel how soft and hydrated it has left my skin.  It has quite an earthy fragrance, which is not overwhelming.  If you like Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir, you’ll love this.  It’s not as strong as the beauty elixir.  The price might seem a bit steep at first at £34, but you do get a massive 150ml of product.  To put it in perspective, I purchased this around March and I haven’t even finished 50% of the bottle.

I feel that because the moisturiser creates such a hydrated and supple base, my makeup glides on better and I’ve not had as many breakouts.  The bottle comes with a pump, which I love as it’s hygienic. You’re not dipping your hands into a tub two times a day!  A little tip, as it does not contain any SPF, please use a separate facial SPF!

This has been such a gem in my skincare routine, and I think it’ll stay put for years to come.

Available at Debenhams for £34 for 150ml.

Have you tried anything from the Aveda skincare range?  What’s your go to moisturiser?
