Review | Klorane Nettle Shampoo for Oily Hair

Klorane Nettle Shampoo for Oily Hair, available here for £6.00.  It promises to:

“Detox your scalp… a deeply cleansing formula for those prone to oiliness.
This gentle, effective treatment shampoo gives you more time between washes, working to regularise the amount of oil your scalp produces while slowing its spread throughout the hair. The star ingredient of the shampoo is scopoletine, an extract from nettle, which restores balance to the scalp.

Hypoallergenic and extremely mild, the Nettle Shampoo enhances volume and detangles for soft and bouncy hair that lasts. After sustained use, oil secretion is regularised, enabling you to wash your hair less frequently.

Apply to wet hair, massage in, and then rinse away thoroughly. Follow with your usual conditioner. If you have an oily scalp and dry tips, apply the Klorane Mango Butter conditioner through the lengths and the ends, avoiding the roots.” – Escentual.com

From first use of the Klorane Nettle Shampoo*, I felt that my hair felt really ‘clean’. By ‘clean’, I mean squeaky clean!  This wasn’t a feeling I am used to but it meant my hair was really shiny.  That definitely deserved a point in my book.

Downside of my hair being squeaky clean – it tangled a lot.  My hair also felt more voluminous.  This could be due to the deep cleansing as it wasn’t being weighed down by anything.  Again this was another positive for me, because I have quite fine hair, and my hair becomes ‘flat’ quite quickly.

Now, the actual purpose of this shampoo, did it make my hair less oily?  After the first wash, I didn't think it did, as I had to wash my hair as normal the following day.  But after the third wash, it definitely worked.  Now I can leave my hair unwashed an extra day!  It works best for me if I use it a couple of times a week, any more than that - it tends to dry out my hair a little.  I think I'll have to get the Klorane Mango Butter hair conditioner to go with this to see if it works better.  Currently I'm using my L'Oreal Paris Hair Expertise EverStrong Nourishing Intense Mask, which is doing a pretty good job.

I do think this shampoo is worth a try if you struggle with oily hair.  For me washing my hair everyday was such a chore!  Now I can have some extra beauty sleep!

What do you use to keep oily hair at bay?
