After my spring nails picks, I though it natural to follow up with a lips pick. Be warned, they are all quite bright. I generally love a bright lippy, and spring/summer just brings that side of me out even more. There’s quite a good mix of high-end and high-street/drugstore. I have a selection of 5 lipsticks that are a mixture of opaque and sheer finish, a girl needs options!
MAC will always be the queen of lipsticks in my eyes. Naturally, included in my picks’ is MAC’s Vegas Volt. This was my most worn lipstick last summer, and it’ll be out this summer too! It is bright yet a wearable orange, coral colour with a creamy and opaque finish, swatch here. A must have for summer and I find suits most skin tones, but especially striking on olive skin tones! Available at MAC website, £15.
Next I have an outright orange but in a sheer finish. It’s Maybelline’s Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick in Electric Orange 912. Although it is part of the ‘Vivids’ range, I found it to be quite sheer on my lips. It might be due to the fact that my lips are quite pigmented, the colour may show up better on someone with ‘lighter’ lips. I have a full review and swatch of it here. Available at Boots at £7.19.
Illamasqua Lipstick in Eurydice is one of my all-time favourite pinks. I wear this all year round, because it’s one of those lipsticks that just lift my mood. It is especially nice in spring, just beautiful, bright and feminine. It looks quite scary in the bullet, but it’s not neon pink at all! It has an opaque, matte finish. Full review and swatch here. Available at Illamasqua website for £16.50.
Apologies for this one, as it’s not available anymore! It’s Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lipsticks in 81. It’s a very pink toned coral, bright and vibrant (swatch below). It has a moisturising finish that leaves a nice stain as it wears off. An alternative would be the Bourjois Velvet Rouge Edition in Frambourjoise. Very smooth application and long-lasting.
Lastly, a sheer pink that I wear all the time, but have been reaching for more recently – Dior Addict Lipstick in Passionnée. It has a very balmy, moisturising formula with a smooth and glossy finish. I love the sheer touch of pink (swatch below) that pretties up any look. It can be worn in a day look to add a sheer wash of colour or with a smoky intense eye in the evening. This is one of my favourites because of the different ways that you can wear this. Let’s face it, there’s no woman alive that can say no to a Dior lipstick! J’adore! Available at Debenhams for £24.
