I very rarely go into Space NK, as I find the temptation of buying to be too much to avoid. However I do go in, when I can just to see what beautiful products they have in stock.
Couple of weekends ago, they had a By Terry makeup artist, Darren travelling from London to do some makeover appointments. Having never tried any of their products, I took the opportunity to try out a range of their products.
Darren gave me some background on the brand. By Terry is formulated by Terry de Gunzberg, former director of makeup design at YSL. Apparently she created the touché éclat, so many of us love today! Terry believes makeup should have skincare properties to add something beneficial to the skin. For this reason, many of her makeup contain organic ingredients such as rose cells, cherry and tea.
Darren and I discussed what sort of makeup look to go for. I wanted something very light as base, so face looks fresh and natural with a bronzey eye and pop of colour. It was very quick and summer appropriate.
On my face, Darren applied By Terry Cellularose® Brightening CC Lumi-Serum in Sunny Flash. This is a serum that colour corrects and evens out skin tone. Less than a couple of pumps was needed to cover my face. Instantly, my face looked radiant and very even. There was a subtle glow that just made my whole face look really fresh. The CC Lumi-Serum can be used on its own, mixed with moisturiser or even your foundation – if you want higher coverage and a natural glow.
Then he moved on to concealing just where needed i.e. under eyes and couple of blemish scars. Concealer of choice was By Terry Touch-Expert Advanced Multi-Corrective Concealer Brush. And that was it. Base done. I had never spent so little time doing my base makeup with such amazing results!
Time for the eyes, he used By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Brown Perfection. I was really impressed by the silky texture and the intense pigmentation. This was applied to the outer corner for the lid and lightly blended. For the inner corner, Darren used By Terry Aqua-Print Eyeshadow in Peach Tornado on the inner corner of my eyes to add a golden pop to the eyes. The two colours were just blended using fingers, super easy and blendable. To keep with the bronzey theme, the top lash line was lined with By Terry Crayon Khol Terrybly in Brown Stellar, this gave subtle definition to the eye. Now to the most exciting part, the pop of blue! For this, Darren used By Terry Crayon Khol Terrybly in Royal Navy.
For mascara, I wanted to try the coloured mascara trend so went for By Terry Mascara Terrybly in Terrybleu. The blue mascara finished the look perfectly as it refelected the blue liner on the bottom lashes and contrasted the bronzey eyeshadow. The blue with the bronzey/golden eye made the perfect eye look for summer. I have vowed to re-create this look over the summer.
As the eyes were the focus of the look, we decided to keep the lips natural and understated. Darren applied the By Terry Tint to Lip in Pink Palace from the French Riviera collection. It’s made from cherry extracts and provides the most beautiful tint to your lip. The clever thing about this is, if you just want a colour tint, use it straight from the tube. If you want to add shimmer to the lip tint, shake the tube well as there are pearly shimmer particles at the bottom of the tube! So basically a two in one. I just thought it was such a clever concept. They’ve used the same concept with their cheek tint and bronzer. Genius!
Speaking of cheeks, Darren applied the By Terry Cheek to Cheek Tint for a natural flush, again not taking focus away from the eyes. This is the most pretty baby pink glowy cheek tint, very summer appropriate.
We wanted the brows to be natural and not too strong, so just tidied up with the By Terry Eyebrow Mascara in Dark Brown. Et Voila!
I was thoroughly impressed by every product Darren used for the makeover. I honestly just wanted to buy everything! But thinking of my poor bank card, restrained myself and made only one sneaky purchase! If you follow me on instagram (@aspiringlondoner), you can find out what it is! You can also see the picture I posted of my eyeshadow intact after nine hours!
This experience has actually changed my perception of higher end brands, and I can see the stark difference in quality!
