Perfumes are probably the ‘easiest’ present you can buy for guys. Well it certainly feels this way for me, especially when I’m buying for my husband. Perfume is definitely something personal to buy for someone you know quite well. Well that has been a faffy intro! Let’s get to the products...
First up, Yves Saint Laurent L’Homme EDT is a really nice fragrance as it’s not too masculine (i.e. doesn’t smell like Lynx!). It’s masculine without being overpowering is probably a better description. It’s very fresh, almost citrusy yet woody. Other half always seems to have this in his collection, so definitely a classic one. Scent notes include top notes of ginger, bergamot and lemon; middle notes of spices, white pepper, basil and violet leaf; base notes of tonka bean, tahitian vetiver and cedar. It’s a great one for someone who likes something different than the usual. It lasts for a long time without having to reapply too!
I’ve just realised, this next one is very similar to the YSL one. Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme EDT is fresh and quite vibrant one. It has the masculine notes too but the citrusy notes really come through. Scent notes include top notes of yuzu, tarragon, mandarin orange, cypress, coriander, calone, lemon, bergamot, sage, lemon verbena; heart notes of saffron, bourbon geranium, ceylon cinnamon, mignonette, blue lotus, lily-of-the-valley; and base notes of amber, cedar, sandalwood, musk, Tahitian vetiver, tobacco. Yeah...I think we have thing for citrusy woody scents. This again is a really different one.
Tom Ford White Suede EDP is described by TF as wild, charming and irresistible. It has a definite woody scent yet with hints of floral notes. I think this is what makes this scent rather unique. You don’t get a lot of men’s fragrance with floral notes. Scent notes include top notes of Bulgarian rose, saffron, thyme & lily-of-the-valley; heart notes of white leather & suede; and base notes of amber, sandalwood & musk. The longevity of this is incredible; you can smell it after days. It’s indulgent but the ultimate present for someone you love. You’d earn some serious brownie points!
Last but not least, a true masculine scent (in the traditional sense) Bleu de Chanel EDT is quite energising with hints of freshness and woody notes coming through. The freshness comes from notes of citrus accord, vetiver, and pink pepper. The energizing notes are from grapefruit, dry cedar and Labdanum and lastly the masculine woody notes are from frankincense, ginger, and sandalwood. From the notes you can see, it’s very different to the three I’ve mentioned above. It’s strong without being overpowering and will have people asking what you’re wearing. It’s everything you expect from Chanel.
There you have it, my pick of fragrances for the men in your life with the help of my other half. These are his top favourites and I hope it’ll help you to pick something for the important men in your life!
