Smoky eye makeup was never my forte. I’ve always had to try a few of times before I got it right, as time have passed I now manage to do it one go. Starting out with eyeshadow it’s difficult to visualise which shades will work together the best, understanding the shape of your eyes and working out the best way to apply the shadow. It’s always helpful when brands help you along, and that’s exactly what Bourjois has done.
This winter saw the release of Bourjois Smoky Stories Quad Palettes. There are many other quads out there that have a similar idea behind them, so what’s so special about these? The four shades in the palettes helps you to create the perfect smoky eye makeup with an almost ‘step by step’ guide. There is a light shade to create the base, the medium (slightly darker shade) helps you to intensify the look and the darkest shade can be used as a liner on your lash line or even to darken your smoky look further on the outer corners of your lids! But the real differentiator for me was the ‘Light Touch’. It’s a super glittery shade that’s specific to each palette that you can dab onto the middle of your lid for a pop of glitter or the inner corner of your eyes to really open up your eyes! I absolutely adore these quads mainly because of this little sparkly addition that sets it apart from the rest.
Bourjois claims that the shadows last 12 hours. It didn’t last more than 6 hours on me, but tbh that’s good enough for the price point at just under £8. The shadows are super pigmented and blends really, really well. This makes it so much easier for people who are experimenting with makeup, you can build the shadows little by little and keep blending to get that perfect smoky eye! There are eight quads to choose from, 01 Grey & Night, 02 Over Rose, 03 I Love Blue, 04 Rock This Khaki, 05 Good Nude, 06 Upside Brown, 07 In Mauve Again and 08 Ocean Obsession. It’s an amazing shade range that covers the neutrals to the more sparkly party looks. If your New Year’s resolution includes perfecting that smoky eye and improving your makeup skills, start with one of these and you’ll be well on your way!
