Best of Topshop Makeup Review - Aspiring Londoner

Initially I thought Topshop makeup wouldn’t be very good.  This is out of sheer snobbery that a fashion brand couldn’t possibly get makeup right, surely.  I have never been more wrong.  I’ve previously reviewed the Topshop lipstick here and Kohl pencil here.

Topshop’s blush in Head Over Heels, £7 (full review here) is how I like my cream blushes to be.  It’s a cream to ‘almost powder’ finish, has strong pigmentation and a colour to suit my skintone.  I won’t gush too much as I’ve done enough of that in my full review, long story short – beautiful cream blusher.

I’m a self confessed mascara addict.  So much so, I have about five mascaras on rotation.  That should tell you, that a mascara needs to be pretty impressive to make me write about it.  Topshop’s False Lash Mascara Intense, £10 has done just that.  Firstly the brush is smaller than normal mascaras and I think that really helps to ‘fan’ out the lashes to give a fluttery look to the lashes.  The shape of the bristles is slightly conical which helps to reach even the smallest lashes.  I’ve been using this for a while now and adore the fluttery ‘false lash’ effect it creates – true to its name!

Last year every blogger under the sun mentioned Josie Maran’s Watercolour Cheek Gelée.  Understandably I wanted to get my hands on it but couldn’t, so when I saw Topshop’s Cheek Jelly, £7 I was over the moon!  I have the shade Phenomenon which is a straight up orange that might scare you in the pot.  But don’t be afraid, it gives the sheerest wash of colour and glossy finish that will give you that coveted dewy looking skin.  The best part, it’s buildable too, so if you do want to step up your look from day to night with a more vibrant colour to your cheeks, build away!  I use this with my fingers as you get the best finish, but you can use a stippling brush too.  I love the cheek jelly as it’s such a unique product.

Topshop’s Glow in Polished, £9 is THE glow getter.  The creamy consistency and the iridescent glow it gives to the skin make it such a great product.  Used over any base, liquid, cream or powder; it doesn’t interfere with the formulas.  It glides on over your skin and catches the light to really add a dewy finish.

I’ve been on a mission to find affordable yet effective brow product.  I came across Topshop’s Brow Palette in Whatever, £12 which contains a warm brown wax and a taupe powder.  To get the best finish I lightly use the gel as it’s quite warm and then apply the powder as it tones down the warm brown.  The taupe shade works surprisingly well for my dark brows and that’s what impressed me so much.  The kit comes with two mini brushes and mini tweezers, and there’s a mini mirror on the lid.  It’s perfectly suited for on the go.
