Lockdown Diaries | "Yes My Accent is Real" Book Review

I've finally found my niche of favourite type of books to read - semi-autobiographies by comedians.  I know I know, that's quite a niche category - but the heart wants what it wants - laughter.

Yes My Accent is Real - Kunal Nayyar

Kunal Nayyar plays Raj Kuthrappali in the hit TV show 'The Big Bang Theory'.  the reason I picked up this book, there isn't one.  I thought it'd be an easy read, that's about it.  After having finished the book, I'd say it's one of the better 'memoirs' I've read.  Kunal takes us through his life through a series' of incidents, we learn about his life in India, in Portland as a student cleaning toilets and then his entry into acting and LA scene.  and finally of course, landing his famous role of Raj.

What I found pleasantly surprising is how he talks about failure, friendship and love.  He candidly talks about falling in love and losing in love, and how he met his now wife and how that felt.  it was refreshing to hear such honest encounter of how love felt to him.  He managed to be vulnerable and authentic throughout the book, with humour.  He shared some life lessons that his father has taught him and how applying these helped him in real life.

Honestly, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.  It's light, but has some gems of wisdom hidden in there.  Nothing revolutionary, but subtle reminders of not letting failures get us down, and to love.  If you have recommendations of similar reads, send them my way!
